Cinnamyl formate was of low acute oral toxicity in the rat and of low acute dermal toxicity in the rabbit.

It was not irritating to the skin of volunteers or rabbits.

It is colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with a cinnamon-like balsam and a bitter taste; it is miscible in ethanol, ether, chloroform and most non-volatile oils, and is insoluble in water.
