annealing

purpose: soften the steel and improve the cutting performance.

process: heat to 850-870℃, then slowly cool to room temperature with the furnace.

quenching

purpose: obtain high hardness and wear resistance.

process: heat to 950-1000℃, keep warm and then cool in oil or air.

tempering

purpose: reduce the internal stress caused by quenching and adjust the hardness and toughness.

process: heat to 150-250℃, keep warm and then cool in air.

surface treatment (optional)

hard chrome plating or nitriding can further improve the surface wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
