Basic features of JIS SUS316 steel

In order to obtain the best corrosion resistance, the welded section of 316 stainless steel needs to be annealed after welding.

If 316L stainless steel is used, post-weld annealing is not required.

JIS SUS316 steel contains molybdenum which is not found in SUS304 - Molybdenum is also a component that forms non-dynamic films and is approximately three times denser than chromium.

Therefore, compared with SUS304, SUS316 has stronger corrosion resistance and has become the material of choice in environments in contact with seawater.

However, compared with the commonly used SUS304, the sales volume of SUS316 is lower and procurement is relatively difficult.
