- **Purpose**: To increase the carbon content on the surface of 40Cr cold drawn steel, so that a high hardness surface can be obtained during subsequent quenching, while maintaining good toughness and strength in the core.

- **Process**

- **Cleaning and degreasing**: Before carburizing, 40Cr cold drawn steel parts need to be strictly cleaned to remove impurities such as oil and rust on the surface to ensure the carburizing effect.

- **Furnace loading**: The cleaned parts are loaded into the carburizing furnace.

The furnace is generally filled with carburizing medium.

Common gas carburizing media include natural gas, propane, etc.

- **Heating and heating**: Slowly raise the furnace temperature to the carburizing temperature.

Usually, the carburizing temperature of 40Cr steel is between 900-950℃.

In this temperature range, carbon atoms are active enough to penetrate into the surface of the steel.

- **Heat-insulating carburizing**: Keep the carburizing temperature for a certain period of time to allow carbon atoms to fully diffuse to the surface of the steel and form a carburizing layer of a certain thickness.

The carburizing time depends on the required carburizing layer thickness, generally ranging from a few hours to more than ten hours.

- **Cooling and unloading**: After carburizing is completed, slowly lower the furnace temperature and then remove the parts from the furnace.
