1095 carbon steel is a high carbon steel, whose main chemical composition is carbon (C) content of about 0.90% - 1.03%, and also contains a small amount of manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) and other elements.

The high carbon content makes this steel have high hardness and strength.

For example, after proper heat treatment, the Rockwell hardness (HRC) of 1095 carbon steel can reach about 60 - 64, which enables it to maintain a sharp edge, so it is often used to make knives.

Manganese in 1095 carbon steel mainly plays the role of deoxidation and improving the strength of steel, and its content is generally between 0.30% - 0.50%.

Silicon can increase the elastic limit and yield strength of steel, and its content is usually around 0.15% - 0.30%.

Phosphorus and sulfur are generally regarded as impurity elements in steel, and their content needs to be strictly controlled because they reduce the toughness and machinability of steel.
